Parkway work begins

The first phase of construction to complete the Fairfax County Parkway extension started this week.

The roadway is being finished to make way for thousands of incoming federal base realignment workers.

For the next three weeks, the Central Motors building at 7238 Fullerton Road will be demolished and cleared away for the roadway.

So far, two phases of the $174 million four-phase project have been funded, totaling $116 million in available funds.
