Tunnel debate not dead

The Great Falls and Mount Vernon chapters of the Sierra Club have put pressure on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to support federal consideration of the tunnel alignment of the Dulles rail extension, TysonsTunnel.org leaders announced at a fund-raising rally in Vienna Monday.

"We believe the upcoming change in [the U.S. presidential] administration and the pledge of Congressman Oberstar to support a Tysons tunnel initiative have created an opportunity to fairly consider the tunnel option,” wrote Sierra Club Representatives in a letter to the board. In a town hall meeting last month, Congressman James Oberstar (D-Minn.), head of the House Transportation Committee, declared his support for federal consideration of the tunnel.
