The SYA Xplosion, a group of 10-U, 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U fastpitch softball teams, will hold tryouts for the 2008-09 squads on Aug. 9-10 at Centreville High School. For more information and the complete schedule of tryouts, please visit www.xplosionfastpitch.org.

Two-time coach of the year Stu Vetter, who's currently coaching at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Md., will hold two basketball camps this summer at Hoop Magic in Chantilly. The first will start Monday, Aug. 4 and conclude Friday, Aug. 8, and the second will start Monday Aug. 11 and conclude Friday, Aug. 15. The Fauquier Mustangs U-11 travel baseball team is looking for players to round out its roster for the fall 2008 and spring 2009 seasons. The Mustangs participate in a local travel league and various regional tournaments. Players born on or after May 1, 1997, are eligible. There are no fees to join. Northern Virginia Senior Softball seeks men (50-plus) and women (40-plus) to play Fall Ball – two seven-inning slowpitch games every Tuesday and Thursday on various Fairfax County fields Sept. 2-Oct. 30. NVSS has 25 teams organized into three skill-level conferences. Players are assigned to a team by a skill assessment, not a tryout.
