Burke man arrested for leaving grandchild in car

A 75-year-old Burke man was arrested June 9 for allegedly leaving his 4-month-old grandson unattended in a locked car at 1 p.m. June 3 while outside temperatures rose above 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to City of Fairfax Police, James Randell Trew told them he was only in the Patriot Harley-Davidson a 9379 Fairfax Blvd. for “a second,” but, according to surveillance camera footage, “it was between a 13 minute and 15 minute time frame,” said police spokeswoman Pam Nevlud.

Dealership employees of the motorcycle shop were able to unlock the door of the vehicle through a window that had been left ajar.

Trew was charged with felony neglect and child abuse and was later released on $2,500 bond.
